EyeView Digital: Sophisticated, Simple, Custom Video Tutorials
EyeView Digital was only founded about a year ago and they're already raking in the dough - over a $100,000 a month. This is probably peanuts compared to their growth potential and market opportunity since most websites and online applications need their services. I sat down with one of the founders, Tal Riesenfeld, who just graduated from Harvard Business School, earlier on in the summer when we were still in the redesign phase. He ended up turning down management positions at both YouTube and Google. Congratulations to them as well for winning the HBS Business Plan Competition and bringing home $20,000.
The startup produces high quality, custom video tutorials for websites such as eBay, online gambling platforms such as duplicatepoker.com, and e-commerce sites such as getprice.com, which are already some of the customers. Any website that needs an easy way to explain or demonstrate how their services work are essentially potential customers for EyeView Digital. Tal also explained that about 50% of their business is derived from large corporations with the other half coming from small startups. Videos such as these provide value to these companies because they are able to increase conversion rates and decrease support costs while simultaneously making sites more appealing and visitor friendly.
Oren, a friend of Tal, originally approached him with the idea because he observed that there was no way to explain websites in a clear and effective manner. Companies are also spending good money to drive traffic to their sites. As you can imagine, conversion and customer retention is essential to achieving a high ROI. The combination of their video's simplicity, quality, usability and functionality makes these tutorials actually quite enjoyable to watch. The videos help make websites more "sticky" by lengthening a user's stay on the site, thus increasing the chances of a conversion, sale, or at least a repeat visit.
All videos are handled and created differently. The process starts with a business analysis and ends with a custom built player and video that is produced by their team of usability experts and high quality producers. Tal explained that they are able to attract talent, not only because of their potential, but because their company gives employees a chance to work with really interesting clients.
Here are some words of wisdom and advice from Tal:
Never give a quality product for free. You will know if you have a quality product because you will be able to charge customers for it, and they will appreciate that.
Always make sure your customers are happy. This has been a key factor with EyeView Digital as they have had repeat customers and brought in new ones via word of mouth.
