The Entrepreneurial Generation, UpStarts, and Donna Fenn

Donna Fenn, a contributing editor at Inc.com, has been interviewing young entrepreneurs for the past two years for her new book "UpStarts" that focuses on similar stories that we cover on College Mogul. She also writes her own blog titled "The Entrepreneurial Generation," which is a phenomenal weblog that I read, recommend, and have included on our list of blogs for startups and entrepreneurs. In fact, I could even go as far as saying that Donna is one of the important forces behind College Mogul. She has introduced me to a bunch of amazing entrepreneurs who we've covered and will continue to cover. But, more importantly, her blog has continued to be a source of inspiration for my myself, and is why she deserves a note worthy mention.

I particularly like her last post, "The GenY Spin on Start-Ups." Here is a brief exerpt that I couldn't agree with more:

I’ve been interviewing young entrepreneurs for almost two years now and one of the re-emerging themes in the businesses they start is dissatisfaction with the status quo. Sure, that’s pretty much true for all entrepreneurs, but this generation of upstarts has its own way of looking at existing products and services and judging them not quite up to snuff for their own needs. Their response: I can do better. The result: businesses like Mint.com, Unigo, and Ignighter.

The post goes on to highlight the three venture capital and angel backed start-ups in more detail and is worth reading. Igniter is one of my favorites and will be interviewing them soon.

Here's her one sentence pitch for her book:

"[UpStarts] will examine the kinds of companies this generation - one of the largest and most entrepreneurial in history - is creating, along with the new perspecitves they bring to financing, building, branding, and managing their companies."
