The College Blog Network vs The Campus Word

The College Blog Network is aiming to capitalize on the growing trend of blogging by aggregating and uniting all student and faculty blogs. Despite the college requirement, it is a cross between Blogged.com (a blog directory that reviews and ranks blogs) and Digg with an article and blog voting system. Their Blog Wire has a feature that I actually like over Digg, which increases the font size of the article as more people read it. Although blogging is growing, it appears that it is more of the tech savvy demographic within college that utilizes blogs for information and hasn't caught on in general. This may be why TCBN hasn't grown rapidly.

The portal has between 40 to 50 blogs, but according to compete, had just under 500 people visit the site last month. They need to focus on making their platform more viral. If they are able to trick all of those blogs to direct their traffic to the site, to say vote for their blog, they might be able to gain momentum to build traffic. To start off, I would have probably gone with a more elitist approach and formed a tight network of the most popular and serious bloggers, but then again, their goal is to aggregate all of the blogs. On this note, they should be contacting as many blogs as possible and doing more leg work. Overall, the idea isn't bad; after all, their competitor that we just covered, The Campus Word, seems to be taking off nicely. If you're digging College Mogul, be sure to vote for us on the site.
