Founded in 1911, Chevrolet has been in the business for more than 100 years. In that time there have been many innovations and improvements. Chevrolet is one of the most popular car brands in the country, and for many reasons. a strictly made-in-America brand, there are many different makes and models to choose from, and this company has produced some of best muscle cars in the industry.

Why are Chevrolet vehicles so popular? There are many different reasons, and each person who owns one has their own. Some say they are much more dependable than other brands, and have owning this brand all their lives. Some feel that they have a better resale value, while others just like the variety of vehicles available.

While we are going to be talking about Chevrolet parts for the purposes of this article, it really applies to just about any kind of brand name you may be looking for. The same rules for selecting the right car part really apply to any kind of make or model you own. Here are some tips to buying car parts anyone can use.

When buying Chevy car parts you really have three choices, depending on the type of part you’re looking for.

  • Used Parts; This means going to a junkyard or auto recycler and getting your part from there. There are pros and cons to this. One is that while buying a part from a recycler is going to be cheaper, you have to deal with someone elses problem. Looking for a replacement door, fender or other structural part may be okay, but when it comes to buying a working part, like an alternator, a water pump, etc, there is no telling how long this part is going to last. Some recyclers may offer a 60 day guarantee, but what happens after that? As many of you know, most problems happen the day after the guarantee is over.

  • Refurbished Parts; Refurbished, or remanufactured parts are also cheaper than buying new. These usually apply to parts like alternators, carburetors, and starters. What happens is that when you replace one of these parts, they are sent to the manufacturer or another company that specializes in remanufacturing the part. The casing is opened up and all the worn out parts are taken out and replaced with new ones. They can’t be sold as new, because they aren’t, but they are sold at a cheaper price. The problem is that while some parts are replaced, not everything is. While the piece is inspected and the part is offered with a warranty, it is a limited warranty.

  • Brand New; Sometimes the way to go is just buying brand new parts. They are brand new, you know they are going to fit, these parts have a warranty and a guarantee. There are times when you should always buy brand new parts, like brakes and calipers, clutch plates and the like, because buying off hand parts could cause an accident However the biggest problem is that brand new parts can be expensive, and depending on the age of your vehicle may be difficult to find.

No matter what make and model, your best bet is to find Chevrolet parts online. You want to make sure that you find a company that is reliable, has been in the business for a long time, and has a full selection of the kinds of parts you’re looking for. You also want to find a company that offers discounted or free shipping whenever possible, or quick delivery. Sometimes you may not have time to wait for a week or a month to get your part, and isn’t that what buying online is all about?
