League of Legends is probably one of the most popular multiplayer online games. Are you interested in getting started with it? Here is everything you need to know.
What is League of Legends?
League of Legends or LOL is a free multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game. Its official release date was October 27, 2009, and the game has remained popular ever since.
Upon its release LOL received great reception. Over the years, its popularity grew as new features were added to the game. LOL was enriched with new maps, character skills and champions.
According to 2013 statistics, League of Legends has over 32 million monthly active players and 12 million daily active players. These figures rank it as the most played online video game in the world, surpassing other popular picks like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.
The game is largely team-oriented. Typically, two teams battle against each other on different maps. Finding a good team and managing to build efficient interactions is essential for being successful and winning the battles.
The game has more than 115 champions that have five different roles – fighter, assassin, support, mage, tank and marksman. Players can either buy the champion that they like or get a weekly champion on a rotational principle.
The game comes with two modes – classic mode demands for the destruction of the enemy’s nexus (a central structure) and dominion mode makes players hold the majority of capture points. There are four available maps for the two game modes.
Strategy: How to Build Your Champion
There are specific strategy guides for each of the champions in LOL. The game is relatively easy to learn, though newcomers may feel a bit confused by the medley of options available. The game starts the same way each time – players choose their champions, join teams and aim to destroy the enemy’s nexus.
To boost the champion, you can depend on an ELO boost. ELO boost is a paid service that allows you to raise your ELO – a LOL rating system that is used to determine the level of each player. Beginners have ELO of 1200 and with each battle, it will either increase or decrease.
The majority of active players have ELO between 0 and 1149 points. This is called the bronze tier. The top two percent of the players fall in the gold tier, which is characterized by ELO between 1500 and 1849 points. Only 0.1 percent of the players have ELO of 2200 or more points and these players belong to the diamond tier.
League of Legends is the most popular online multiplayer game for a reason. Characterized by interesting maps, great graphics and character customization opportunities, LOL attracts many gaming fans to its fantasy world. Since the game is relatively easy to learn, it is perfect for beginners and for individuals that are just getting started with multiplayer battle games.
