Cavallere is a new college lifestyle media site for men. The Babson student group-edited blog aims to cover entertainment, fashion, fitness, grooming, health, technology, relevant products, and of course, advice on women. They recently launched a couple of months ago and have already been able to recruit a team of 8 writers and 4 partners. You can think of the site as a cross between GQ, Mens Fitness, and Maxim.
They told me they originally planned to create an e-commerce site for male fragrances, but realized that it would be too capital intensive. Now, they will focus on building revenues and then expanding to focus on product reviews and offering deep discounts similar to how Woot does it. (Woot sells a one product every day at a highly discounted price.) - A model would be very appealing to college students. Its a good idea to create services like this since many people already go to Mens Health, and the like, for the same type of articles.

Although, I like the idea of group-edited blogs, I fear that they may be tackling too many subjects. I've learned that the success of group-edited blog centers on the quality of writers you are able to attract, retaining those writers, and the continual production of quality articles. Group-edited blogs are easy to start, but difficult to maintain if you don't have a lot of time and commitment from your writers. Continue Reading...
