Wine Riot Applies Mobile Apps to Engage Wine Tasters

The Second Glass Logo

The Second Glass, a Boston based startup that produces a wine publication and weekly events, is combining technology and social media to add a new spin to wine tasting. Their upcoming event, Wine Riot!, will be utilizing an iPhone app called Drync, that enables users to store tasting notes, search wine ratings and reviews, and add wine to a Virtual Cellar. This will be combined with a "Twitter Tasting."

"Attendees will sniff, swirl and sip, then tweet in their thoughts wtih #ttl to ahve their words broadcast across the globe and onto the walls of the Riot via Twitter."

Morgan First, Founder of MAP Boston who now heads marketing for The Second Glass, says their goal is to "modernize wine tasting for the savvy millennial generation." It'll be an interesting spin to deepen market penetration while showing how social media and technology can be applied to track and store information that can be referred back to and easily used through the use of mobile applications.

The event will take place on Friday, April 17th, and Saturday, April 18th. Check out more details on the Wine Riot homepage and purchase your tickets here.

"Good wine, like good food is available to everyone, only the industry has become overly complicated and very pretentious." To counter this, Tyler Balliet founded The Second Glass and has positioned it as fun, more entertaining, and digestable read.

In many ways, the name mirrors the history behind this new era of wine drinkers. Prohibition in the early mid 1920's seemed to "screw everything up." Tyler explained, as he went on to describe how the law killed all but a small handful of wineries in California. As a result, people started drinking spirits simply because they were easier to smuggle. "Wine has always been something the US has cared about, but had never depended on."Continue Reading...
