Anaptyx, a Boston College startup, is now supplying free public WiFi to Harvard Square in Cambridge. If you didn't catch our previous posts, Anaptyx supplies environmentally friendly mesh WiFi networks to communities and apartment buildings using Meraki (an MIT startup) technologies. The contract marks an important milestone as it not only kicks off their partnership with Meraki, but also gave them tons of exposure on blogs such as Xconomy (who we're partnered with), magazines such as PC World, and newspapers such as the Boston Herald.
The installation took just under a week to complete and required the set up of 35 access nodes that were set up on local businesses at strategic points. Other companies have failed in similar projects because their networks are for more complex than then simple ones that Meraki has designed.
