Teen habits can be good, or bad. Some of these just happen during these early years, and go away after high school when they grow up and go out on their own. Others stay with them for a lifetime. Let’s take a look at some of these habits, and see where they go as the teen gets older.

Some teens have really good study habits, while others don’t. Some good study habits that teens develop can include coming home and getting right to home work before any leisure time. They study hard, make sure they prepare tests, and generally do well in school. Those who have these habits tend to be more successful. They often go off to college, and end up landing a great career that they stick with throughout their life. On the other hand, teens can have bad study habits too. They put off doing homework until the last minute, or not at all. When it comes to quizzes and tests, they’re not prepared, and often get poor grades. This can translate to dropping out of school, getting a GED instead of a diploma.

Eating habits for teens vary greatly. Some teens are quite good at making sure they are eating healthy, getting a well balanced diet, and exercising regularly. This may not always be doing workout routines, but they get exercise in other ways, like playing team sports, or staying active with their friends. On the other hand, other teens have really poor eating habits, eating junk food all the time, skipping meals, and instead of being active, they are coming home to watch television, or playing video games. Here too this affects their adult years. Teens that develop poor eating and health habits may be overweight, even obese as adults, and later on in life could develop all kinds of different health problems.

Are these habits developed on their own, or are there other influences? Certainly some of these habits can be developed because of interactions with their peers. They see their friends slacking off, getting poor grades, and not getting into trouble for it, so why not do it too? On the other hand, some teens may take an opposite direction. They see their friends slacking off, and don’t want to be that way, so they try to adopt good study habits. They see their peers being overweight, and may try to develop good eating habits. They want to be more active and be healthy.

Whether fortunate or unfortunate, many teens develop habits from the example set by their parents. If their parents eat poorly, they might also start eating junk food all the time, or on the other hand, they may not want to be like them, so they are determined to eat more healthy. Parents that are hard workers, are in good paying jobs, often instill these values and habits in their kids. The same goes for parents that are always complaining about work, but don’t do anything about it.

One bad habit that adults have that may bleed over to their kids is smoking. This is unhealthy, and if your child starts smoking at an early age, it can be much harder to quit later on in life. The earlier they start smoking, the more likely they are to have health problems earlier in adulthood. Even if you yourself don’t want to quit smoking, it’s important to make sure your child doesn’t start.
