Not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend while on vacation to the UK. As a traveler, you want to take in as many sites as you possibly can. You want to be able to relax and not have a lot of stress, after all isn’t that what a vacation is for? There are really stressful things about traveling and visiting other countries. Waiting in long lines to get into attractions, getting from point A to point B, lodging, airfare getting there, and of course food. Here are some great tips to help you travel around the UK as cheaply as possible.
Let’s start with travel. One of the most expensive parts of traveling to the UK is just getting there. Plane tickets can be expensive, but if you plan ahead and do some research you can find cheap tickets. You may have to travel economy class, or may not be able to get that window or aisle seat, but as long as you are getting there, does it really matter? You have to remember that some airlines charge for just about everything, food while in flight, you have to pay for checking in your bags, so keep this in mind when scheduling a flight.
You need to get around when you get there. You have different choices, some more expensive than others. You want to avoid taking taxis, since this expense can add up quick. You may want to rent a car. This is cheaper than a taxi, but a big hassle. Unless you have driven around the UK already, traffic rules are much different, and very congested when it comes to big cities. Luckily, when it comes to big cities like London, Glasgow, and Belfast, there is an extensive public transportation system in place. You can buy a Citypass, which is a great way to travel around these cities.
Buying a Citypass has many advantages. For one price, you can travel anywhere the bus or rail system goes for a certain amount of days. Since there are stops at or close to just about any great attraction, you don’t have to worry about parking or traffic. Another advantage of these passes is that you can use your pass to get into many attractions at a reduced rate or even free. You can get into well known places like the London Zoo, the visitor’s center at Buckingham Palace, and Big Ben, just to name a few.
When it comes to traveling from one city or country to the next. The cheapest way to go is by train. You can also buy rail passes that allow you to travel anywhere a train stops for a certain period of time, from a few days to a week or more. What better way to see the countryside than a relaxing train ride? You can get off wherever you want, explore the town for awhile, then catch the next train to your destination.
Another cheap way to see the sites of a city is with a tour. There are numerous tours available in large cities. This is an inexpensive way to see multiple attractions in a short period of time. By joining a tour, your travel is paid for, some of them include lunch or dinner, and you can get into places without standing in line, and in some cases, have exclusive access to areas where the public can’t go.
One of the most frustrating aspects of vacationing abroad is finding cheap accommodations. Sure there are a lot of hotels in the UK, but finding the right one that is within your budget can be a pain. Luckily, no matter where you happen to be staying, you can find hotels in UK at this site, www.hotelsuk.org. All you have to do is type in the town or city you’re interested in, the date, and a list of hotels will appear for you.
