Many people are looking to go back to school these days. It can be because they want to better their lives, get a better job, improve their living situation, and many others. One of the biggest problems is that a lot of people don’t have the time to go to a regular brick and mortar institution. They may be working, or taking care of their families, or simply don’t have the kind of money that it takes to go to a school.
This is why online schools are springing up all over the place. Some of these schools are well established, offering courses on all the same subjects you would find at any other regular school. However, not all online schools are the same. Some of them are connected to their brick and mortar counterparts, while others are not accredited. If you read the fine print on their websites, it will state that course credits can’t be transferred. This basically means that if you decide to attend a real college later, all the classes you took online from them won’t even count. You will have wasted a bunch of time and money. Even if you do graduate, your degree may not even be worth the paper it’s printed on.
Here are a few tips to help you find an online school that is actually legitimate. One is that an accredited college will have both online courses as well as an actual campus. Secondly, you always have to do some research about the online school. How long have they been established? Do their credits transfer to an offline campus? Do they have a good reputation? Do they offer the same courses you would find on a regular campus? Are their fees comparable to offline campuses? These are a few of the questions you should ask yourself, and when you investigate these colleges.
There is another important factor when it comes to finding the right online school. Not everyone has a computer they can devote just to college. As mentioned before, not everyone has the money to afford another separate laptop. If you are one of these people, then you need to find online schools that provide laptops to students. You may ask yourself how can these schools provide these laptops? Well they provide these laptops because they want to get you into their college, for one reason. Another reason is that they want to make sure you are committed to your education, and want to provide you the means to help you do so.
However, online schools that provide laptops to students often have stipulations that have to be followed. While these laptops are free on one hand, on the other hand they are not, not until you graduate. You won’t be able to get your laptop until after you have registered, gotten your student loans and grants. It may also take up to a week before you are actually issued your laptop, because these schools want to make sure you are actually going to be attending classes. Once you get your laptop, it may have restrictions set on it by the school administration, a monitor if you will, to make sure you are only using it for school activities, classes, and homework. If it is found that you are using it for your own personal benefit, they could charge you, or take it away.
You may ask yourself just how good these laptops are? Well in many cases they are brand new, right out of the box. These laptops are not cheap computers, they are top name brands like Dell and HP, with Windows 7 or 8 installed. The laptop is top of the line, and includes software that is specifically designed to help you with your school work. For an example if you are taking accounting classes, you may have the newest excel and spreadsheets programs.
